Murphy Speech and Language provides individualized pediatric speech therapy in the Charleston, SC area, thoughtfully designed to support each child’s unique communication journey. Our approach blends evidence-based treatment methods with play and creativity, because we believe therapy should be both fun and functional. Through engaging sessions, we create a welcoming environment where children feel confident, motivated, and supported as their speech and language skills grow. Our goal is not only to build strong communication abilities, but to help every child find joy and confidence in expressing themselves.

Lizzie Murphy, MS, CCC-SLP is a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and the founder of Murphy Speech and Language.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Elon University and her Master of Science in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from New York University.
Before becoming a speech-language pathologist, Lizzie worked as an elementary school teacher, gaining valuable experience in reading development and language comprehension. This background allows her to thoughtfully integrate phonics, literacy, and reading-based strategies into her speech and language therapy sessions.

We provide individualized 30 and 60 minute speech therapy sessions for children ages 2–18, offered in the comfort of the child’s home, daycare or preschool, or within the community, such as a library or park. Session length and frequency are thoughtfully determined during the evaluation process to best meet each child’s needs. Services are available throughout Daniel Island, Mount Pleasant, Wando, Huger, and Downtown Charleston.
To avoid any conflict of interest, we do not provide services to children who attend Philip Simmons Elementary or Philip Simmons Middle School.
We evaluate and treat a range of pediatric communication needs:
Our approach is designed to make speech therapy straightforward, effective, and personalized - from first consultation to lasting progress.

We start with a complimentary phone consultation to learn more about your child and discuss any areas of concern. This conversation allows us to answer your questions and understand your goals.

A comprehensive speech and language evaluation is completed to assess your child’s strengths and needs. Based on the results, an individualized treatment plan is created with clear and tailored goals.
An evaluation is not required if your child has an active IEP or has had a speech-language evaluation within the past six months.

Once the plan is in place, sessions are scheduled at a time and location that works best for your family. Therapy begins with a focus on meaningful, engaging, and evidence-based treatment to support your child’s progress and confidence.

We accept private pay (credit, debit, HSA, or FSA) and are out-of-network with insurance companies/Medicaid. However, a Superbill can be provided for potential reimbursement from your insurance company. Private pay offers greater flexibility and confidentiality. Treatment can begin quickly and continue consistently since a doctor’s referral and insurance pre-authorization are not needed.
